In 2009 I attempted to run the 26.2 with Donna in Jacksonville, FL to raise money for brsaet cancer research. I did this because my mom-n-law has been a brsaet cancer surviver since 2000. However, at 44 years old and training a year with the Jeff Galloway run/walk program, I was only able to complete 15 miles as my knees felt like they were going to explode! I had to take a full year off from running and several doctor appointments (PT, Chiropractor, cortisone shots, orthodics) to recover. This year I have trained for the Ramblin’ Rose Half-Marathon in Durham, NC to raise money for the new Duke Cancer Institute. My mom has been treated at Duke since 2000 for non-Hodgins Lymphoma. While I was training this September, my mom was diagnosed with colon cancer. There was NO WAY I would allow my knees to stop me from completing this run for my mom (now 69 years old). I am proud to report that on Oct. 21st, 2012, at 47 years old, I successfully completed my 1st half-marathon in 3:18:30. I had to walk more than expected because, again, my knees wanted to explode! On Oct. 31st my mom had her cancer surgery at Duke. My medal was hanging in her ICU room and is now in her room on the 5th floor. She has been here almost 2 weeks. (I’m writing this as she sleeps.)I really appreciate you’re newsletter and look forward to each I recieve. I have it sent to 2 of my e-mail addresses so I don’t miss an issue. I also save each e-mail to review from time to time.I would appreciate a copy of your new book so that I can save my knees, hips, and lower back. My goal is to continue to train and run the 26.2 with Donna in Feb. 2015, just before I turn 50. I don’t want to damage my running parts before my Full. I can use all the help available. Please consider me as one to recieve a free copy of your book. I will gladly submit reviews or try any practices.Thank You!!
